Life, love and backbone

Have you ever had a completely random word, or a phrase pop into your head for what seems to be no reason at all? This happens to me all the time! I use to just think it’s random, but now I fully believe that what can seem to be “random” in our eyes, is really strategically put in place by the Lord. I know God is always speaking. He loves to speak to his children. Sometimes, all it takes is for us to quiet ourselves down, and tune in to what he has to say.

I had one of these moments the other day. The word “backbone” popped into my head and I couldn’t shake it. “Backbone.” So I looked up the definition. Backbone is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “strength of character; resolution.” Immediately when reading this definition, three people came into mind: Mother Teresa, King David and Donald Trump.

You may be thinking, “what in the world do Mother Teresa, King David, and Donald Trump have to do with each other?!” Well, I would respond to you with, “backbone.” All three of these people are leaders that have stood up against cultural popularities to do what is right and refuse to bow to compromise. All three people have made an impact on history while standing in the gap on behalf of an entire people group.

I was reading about Mother Teresa the other day and was so impacted by her lifestyle. She chose to live her life by giving it to people who had seemed to have been forgotten by the rest of the world. She lived of a love. True love. Winning love. Love that dissolved sickness, color, race, religion and gender. Love that pursued God in everything and sought to love others to life.

Love has strength; It’s character stands firm. Love does not bow to injustice, ungodly rulings, or the popular demands of culture. Love has a backbone.
Just as the three people above, you have backbone. We are all put in positions to choose to stand firm on what is right, righteous, and just. Every day we get to make choices that bring us and others around us either life or death. You don’t have to compromise in the little or the big to move forward in life. I encourage you today to choose life in every moment. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the first step.” God has every step prepared before you. Let’s choose to take each day with life, love and backbone.

I think backbone is something society needs a little more of because like your examples, people cannot do great things and see great change if they do not have a little backbone. And not just the backbone to stand in the face of adversity, but also to take the hits thrown at them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Im curious as to what similarities you see between Mother Teresa, a woman who dedicated her life to serving the marginalized, and Donald Trump, a man who has made numerous comments that perpetuate hatred, bigotry, sexism, and racism. I do not understand how any of these are making a stand for what is right, but I would love to hear your views.

Absolutely, I would love to share with you. The similarity I wrote about Mother Teresa, King David, and Donald Trump is their strength in vision, strong in their message, and standing on behalf of injustice done to a people group.

I really like this post. I appreciate the connection to the readers with the random thought idea in the beginning. It helps relate the post to your audience very quickly and easily. I also was very interested by your three people: Trump, David and Teresa. It is often nice to see very different types of people connected in a very different way, and it’s not everyday you get to read an article that relates Donald Trump to a Saint.
